Q. What is A2 milk? Why is A1 milk different from A2?

They are both different types of protein. The major reason A1 milk differs from A2 milk is due to a protein called BCM-7. In A1 milk BCM-7, when ingested, reacts with the internal organs and produces harmful health effects & is a source of various critical diseases like Type 1 diabetes, heart issues, IBS and cancer. A2 milk does not contain any BCM-7 and A2 milk structure is more similar to breast milk in humans. It is much easier to digest, is light on the body, more nutritious, contains more protein and has been linked to a host of health benefits.

Q. What is BCM-7? OR What is the reason for A1 milk causing discomfort in the body?

BCM-7 is a betacasomorphin present in A1 protein, which occurred as a mutation in the Holstein cow and was then passed onto majority of the cows due to cross-breeding. BCM-7, when ingested, reacts with the internal organs and produces harmful health effects and can be a source of various critical diseases like Type 1 diabetes, heart issues, IBS and cancer. That is also the reason people normally complain about stomach discomfort, bloating & indigestion after drinking A1 milk. In fact, a lot of people who think they’re lactose intolerant are actually A1 milk intolerant and usually are able to transition into drinking A2 milk quite easily.

Q. Why doesn’t discomfort occur when we drink A2 milk?

A2 milk structure is more similar to breast milk in humans and A2 milk does not contain any BCM-7. It is much easier to digest, is light on the body, more nutritious and has been linked to a host of health benefits.

Q. Why does A2 milk not contain BCM-7?

A2 cows produce an amino acid called Proline in their protein. Proline is strongly bonded to a small protein called BCM 7, which prevents it from getting into the milk produced by A2 cows. In the new hybrid cows, the proline amino acid got converted to Histidine due to mutation of genes over the years. Histidine holds a weak bond with BCM 7, so it is easily released in the GI tract of animals and can enter the human body on consumption of milk from A1 cows. BCM-7 interacts with the human digestive system, internal organs and brain system and causes major health problems.

Q. How did this A1/A2 protein occur?

A1 protein occurred as a mutation in the Holstein cow and was then passed onto majority of the cows due to cross-breeding.

Q. What do you feed your cows?

Our cows diet comprises of over 70% fresh green seasonal fodder. That is jowar and macca in the summer and autumn, jayi & berseem in winter. We give them good quality concentrate feed, which we grind ourself to ensure there is no kind of adulteration. Concentrate feed is a mix of highly nutritive items like macca + wheat + chokar + chhilka + khal + molasses + mineral mixture + jau in the summer and bajra in the winter. We also give them some dry fodder (bhusa) to up their fibre and dry matter intake.

Q. What is the benefit of single breed milk?

This depends on personal preference. The breeds we have at our farm are amongst the top 4 breeds of India. Some people prefer Sahiwal milk due to its fat and protein %. Other people prefer Gir due to it’s ability to absorb the sun rays the best and pass on its benefits and yellow color in the milk. Tharparkar milk is very good for health. In fact, there is a hospital for cancer patients in Rajasthan, which utilizes Tharparkar cow urine for the purpose. Rathi milk is of great quality. And then there is always taste. Everybody has their own preference but going for any of the breeds is a good choice.

Q. What is the benefit of single cow milk?

Single cow milk is like having your mother’s milk. This milk is highly recommended for health and spiritual benefits. The milk that you get from a single cow has only her essence and there are no other cows' hormones mixed. Besides giving a certain clarity of mind, milk from a single cow is exceptionally nourishing to the body. Especially, if you have kids at home, this is the milk to go for. What can be more nourishing than your mother's milk? Nothing. But consistently having the milk from a cow of your choosing is the next best option. You can choose your own cow from our farm or from a photo.

At Shoonya, we take great pride in making unadulterated A2 desi-cow milk products and chemical-free farm produce available for our consumers.

With food adulteration and pesticide use rampant in pretty much anything and everything that we consume nowadays, it’s no wonder that hospitals are cropping up on every street corner and pharma is one of the most money-making industries. And to imagine that this exponential rise in health problems due to lifestyle issues has mainly arisen in the last 70-80 years! That’s right - our predominant focus on quantity over quality has led us to use chemicals excessively and ruin not only our health, but the soil, water bodies and the air that we breathe as well.

With that being said, Shoonya is a small initiative to reverse this damage - both inward and outward - by taking to natural farming techniques. It’s quite simple. We use desi cow manure to strengthen our soil and desi cow urine to keep away pests. The result is healthy soil and chemical-free produce that doesn't just satisfies your taste buds, but nourishes you from within.
